Exit strategy is a technique used to avoid low count shoes in an attempt to avoid playing hands when the odds are in the dealers advantage. In addition, the time you spend playing in a low count shoe could be better used at a different table where there is a better chance of the odds swinging in your favor. The following plot shows the expected return for a given count:

The Montalban Exit Strategy

For an initial running count of 2 on a 6 deck shoe, the following exit strategy is recommended:

  • count <= 0 and >= 1 deck has been played
  • count <= 5 and >= 2 decks have been played
  • count <= 10 and >= 3 decks have been played
